Working with Young People

‘Learning For All’ (2005) states that "We need to raise aspirations so that more people from under-represented groups make the most of the opportunities that exist, are motivated to achieve at school and later"

During 2009/2010 the Scottish Funding Council reviewed the 4 Forums’ school programmes.  This has resulted in work with schools being re prioritised.  To find out about the work that the forum funded prior to this, see the archive section.

Schools for Higher Education Programme:

In August 2010 we will launch our new schools programme as part of  the Scottish Funding Council’s national entitlement to young people in schools with the lowest progression rates to higher education in college and university.

This programme will be delivered by LEAPS  (Lothians Equal Access Programme for Schools).

The vision of the programme is to help pupils to recognise and achieve their own potential.

The main aim of the programme is to support school pupils to:

·         Raise expectations

·         Increase aspirations,

·         Increase staying on rates and progression rates to higher education in   (college and university).

The Forum’s work with young people supports the objectives of a Curriculum for Excellence which aims to create: successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society and at work.
