Working with Young People
‘Learning For All’ (2005) states that "We need to raise aspirations so that more people from under-represented groups make the most of the opportunities that exist, are motivated to achieve at school and later"
LEAPS and Routes 2 Success currently help deliver our programme of work in the South East.
- Targeted at young people from deprived areas with low participation rates in FE and HE
- to raise aspirations
- to increase attainment
- to promote progression to college or university and through FE/HE articulation routes
- promote retention
- empower young people and their families by providing information, advice and guidance.
The Forum’s work with young people supports the objectives of a Curriculum for Excellence which aims to create: successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society and at work.
Over the past year the Scottish Funding Council has reviewed the Forums' school programmes. This has resulted in the work with schools being re-prioritised to provide support to pupils from S3- S6 as part of a national entitlement to raise awareness of, and increase the numbers who go onto higher education in college and university only. This is targeted support at schools in the lowest quintile in terms of their progression to HE. As a result of this the Forum will no longer will be able to fund Routes 2 Success and this project will end in July 2010.
The South East Forum's work with schools will support 19 schools with the lowest progression to higher education across the south east of Scotland. We are in the process of developing this programme. Please keep checking this website for more information on the programme.
