Supporting Looked After and Accommodated Young People and Young Offenders

The South East Forum held a seminar on the 26th November at Queen Margaret University.  At this seminar presenters provided some practical and innovative examples of work that is being done to support young people to achieve positive outcomes for their future.

Schools and Residential Care  -

Bill Breckinridge Cirriculum Manager at Cumbernauld College provided an overview

of the Scoping Study that a team at Cumbernauld College had been commisioned

to carry out.  For more information on the scoping study 

 

 

 

Transitions to college and work

Alan Sherry, Assistant Principle of John Wheatley College provided an insightful overview of the Transitions to College and Work pilot that John Wheatley College are doing with funding from the Scottish Funding Council.

Working with the Frank Buttle Trust and gaining the Kite Mark

Lesley Stokes, Widening Participation Officer for The University of Edinburgh

 provided an overview of the work that they have  been doing to

ensure young poeple who have been looked after or incare are supported by the

University.

Access To Industry –how they are supporting young offenders

Sian Fiddimore Chief Executive of Access To Industry showed a DVD which

highlighted the work that they have been doing in Polmont Young Offenders

Institute prior and post release which is making a real impact and is about to be

extended to cover the Glasgow area as well as Edinburgh.
