SWAP - East

SWAP East work to widen access to higher education through the promotion and provision of access programmes aimed at under-represented groups of adults with few or no previous qualifications.

What we want to achieve

  • Raise awareness of access opportunities through SWAP Access courses delivered by Scotland's Colleges
  • Provide impartial advice and guidance to prospective learners
  • Provide guaranteed progression routes for those completing SWAP Access courses
  • Prepare students for progression to HE and increase retention
  • Monitor and review provision to ensure courses meet the learner needs.

Programme Information

SWAP-East, along with SWAP West and SWAP North is a regional consortium of colleges and universities.  They promote access to Higher Education for mature students throughout Scotland, by working in partnership to provide a route into Higher Education for adults with few or no qualifications or out of date qualifications.

Successful completion of a SWAP Access Programme can lead to a guaranteed place on an HN or degree course at college or university.

Advice and support

SWAP-East also co-ordinates reviews of the programme framework and brokers and updates progression pathways.  They provide support to students during the access course with materials, workshops and campus visits designed to ease transition and prepare them for university.  They also support practicioners and the colleges that deliver the SWAP access courses.

SWAP-East is funded jointly by the South East and Fife & Tayside Forums.
