About Us
History and Remit
The South East Forum (SEF) is one of four wider access regional forums established in 1999 with the original remit of widening access to higher education (HE). In 2006 this was revised to include both further education (FE) and HE.
The Forum works to deliver on priorities identified in 'Learning For All' (2005) and is working closely with the Scottish Funding Council's Access and Inclusion Committee.
Funding
The South East Forum is funded annually by the Scottish Funding Council, with £610,000 awarded for 2010/11. The South East Forum funds two programmes of work targeted at young people and adults.
Our Vision
To improve the life-chances of disadvantaged groups for a more successful and inclusive Scotland; placing learners at the centre of our thinking and adding value to the good work of others in the spirit of collaboration and partnership.
Aim
Widen access to opportunities provided by further and higher education, targeting:
- Young people from deprived areas with low participation rates in FE and HE
- Adults from deprived areas with low participation rates in FE and HE
- Boys and men in the above groups.
What we want to achieve
- Raise aspirations for learning
- Promote progression
- Promote retention
- Increase attainment
- Empower learners
- Promote a learning culture
